Frequently asked questions on all Wedding cakes and Special Occasion cakes

Wedding cakes are often ordered a year in advance so remember to book early!

Wedding cakes that include tiers of fruit cakes ideally  require a minimum of 3 months prior to your wedding date in order for the cake to mature.

Do I need to have all the tiers the same?

No you don't and you also do not need to have a fruit cake as the base, this can be made for the top tier with different sponges on the others, all of my cakes are fully supported, there isn't a danger of sinking or falling.

What if I want Sugar Flowers on the cake?

My flowers are all individually handmade and look extremely natural, for which people cannot believe that they are made of sugar as they do look so real. My portfolio does consist of Roses, Carnations, Freesias, Poppies, Arum and Calla Lillies, Stargazers and Oriental hybrids, Orchids, Sweet peas, Honeysuckle, Scottish Thistles, Sea Holly, Gerberas, Jasmine, Japanese blossom, Peonies and all types of leaves which include the usual ivy, rose but have introduced variegated  long and larch leaves, my portfolio is growing by the day.  To view a sample of these click the link above marked "Sugar Flowers".

Andrea can create the shape that you are looking for, please take a look at her website in order to establish the “look” that you are looking for. Please be free to bring along your colour and pattern scheme when looking for a design, as all cakes are designed especially with you in mind.

How will the cake be presented?

Andrea has a number of stands, please see website for pictures of these, the cakes are “dressed” according to your taste and on your viewing day, this is how the cake would be set up on your wedding day, if there were to be any alterations then this is the time to change the setting up.

Can you provide a different styles of cake stands?

Yes we can hire out our stands, the price for this is £15 plus a refundable deposit of £80 which is given back on returning the stand. Hire is on a 6 day basis.

Cake separators excluding pillars require a refundable deposit of £40 which is given back on return within 6 days.

How will the cake be set up at my venue?

You do have the option of collecting the cake in person, (each cake is individually boxed, unless stacked where the box will be larger) and dependant upon the complex setup of your cake, instructions will be issued to you for this, however, if you would like Andrea to personally deliver your cake this can be arranged, this would be based on the location of the cake and is calculated on mileage. Assembling your cake is free of charge you are only charged for the delivery. This delivery is added to the quote at the time of ordering, unless you change venue, this cost will remain the same.

What does the cake taste like?
Andrea personally makes all the cakes from the finest and freshest ingredients. Samples are available, which can be sent out by post, if you require larger samples these will be charged a nominal fee.

What choices of flavours are there?

Each cake is handmade by myself, and they are made with the finest quality and fresh ingredients, you can choose either a dark fruit, light fruit or an exotic fruit cake. The most popular sponge cakes tend to be Lemon madeira or Chocolate, however within my portfolio are:- Coconut, Pineapple and Coconut, Carrot cake, Date and Walnut, Banana, Banana and Pecan, Cherry and Almond, Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Orange, Coffee and Coffee and Cappuccino. If you can think of any other combination then please feel free to let me know.

What about nut allergies and gluten free?

I also cater for Gluten Free, one of my relatives is Gluten intolerant, and I have baked many cakes for her where she has stated that these cakes taste just like the ones she was once able to eat. However I cannot guarantee that the cake will be “nut free” because some of the ingredients used do carry warnings themselves stating that they could contain nut elements, but will of course be more than happy to provide a list of all ingredients used in the making of your cake
